I think it is wonderful and commendable that there is this focus on hiring veterans, but I wish that there would also be such a focus on hiring military spouses. I have been a Marine wife for more than 10 years, I have an MBA and a long work history, but am unable to find a job after our most recent move. One of the biggest reasons is because of my husband's work schedule. I can't rely on him because of deployments and trainings, so finding a job has to revolve around any daycare I can find, which has been a problem - employers often want someone who is available after normal hours or for oncall weekend type situations. Additionally, daycare expenses vary from state to state. We recently found out that daycare costs about 3 times as much here in NY as it did in AZ. And, while the base daycare centers are wonderful and you pay based on the service member's rank, they are often full or not always near by (in our case, 30 min away over a mountain, while jobs are all about 30 min in the other direction).
So Rachel Madow feels that the militray should provide leadership for the civilian population? Based on what?
